Wait gain

Many of us are attracted to instant gratification. We want what we want, and we want it now.

Most likely, we’d also like it to come to us with minimal outlay of effort or resources. In other words, we’d like what we dream about to simply fall into out laps.

Despite the reality that this rarely happens, we may still hope for it all the same.

Instant gratification, for the most part, isn’t healthy for us. We may become a bit lazy or feel entitled if we simply get whatever we want immediately.

We build strength, patience, vision, and wisdom when we have to wait. We learn to appreciate what we do have, making us generally more grateful.

Waiting teaches us to refine our vision of what we need versus what we want. Patience helps us to keep our focus on what is rather than on whatever next thing we long for. We build our character, resilience, and ingenuity by learning to work with what we have.

Today’s message reminds me that it often is to my advantage to have to wait for what I want. I build myself up when I have to work a bit to achieve my dreams.

Please reflect and share. How has waiting benefitted you?
