Spiritual is in the doing
Many of us may not think we’re truly spiritual people. We may think we need to be meditating daily, eating a plant-based diet, always being generous, and never getting angry in order to be spiritual. While all these actions may be beneficial or benevolent, they don’t define what spiritual is.
Spiritual isn’t about what we do or don’t do. It is rather about how we do what we choose to do. If we do the “right thing” but do it resentfully, that isn’t spiritual. If we do something beneficial only to ourselves, that may very well be spiritual if it involves self-care. It’s the how that is important.
Spiritual can be considered having the quality of the divine inspired within ourselves. When we act from love, compassion, respect, and kindness—for ourselves and/or others–we are inspired. We are honoring the divine consciousness that connects us in all of Creation.
Today’s message reminds me to be aware of how I do what I do. When I’m cheerful, kindly, grateful, and respectful, that’s a really good start.
Please reflect and share. How do you define spiritual?
