Find the up side.
We all encounter difficult times. We usually struggle and wish things weren’t as they are.
When a crisis hits us unexpectedly, it’s even worse. We likely feel totally unprepared and vulnerable.
It’s important to remember that while we may be vulnerable in the moment, we aren’t totally unprepared. Even though we may not have experienced this particular flavor of challenging event, we have weathered some tough times in the past, and we’ve survived. Our experience of being resilient in the past will help us with whatever problems we encounter now and in the future.
So, if possible, we can relax in our current crisis and know that we will survive and perhaps even thrive. When we can trust that we will get through the present dilemma, we can move on to trying to create some sanity in our lives, as is.
We can identify things that are going right, even if they are small things like a particularly good cup of coffee, clean and comfy clothes, or a hug from a loved one. Once we shift our focus from crisis mode, we can find more positive occurrences. We can learn to enjoy life from in and among the rubble.
Today’s message reminds me that there always is an up side. When my focus is on what is working, even in difficult times I will feel like my life is good.
Please reflect and share. What is working for you right now?
