NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 757

What we do reveals our priorities.

Most of us have mental lists of things we have to do, things we should do, and things we’d like to do. If we’re not procrastinating, we usually do most of the things we have to do, some of the things we think we should do, and a few—if any–of the things we’d like to do.

We ourselves choose which of the three categories items fit into, often with input from others. But in the end, we decide what we will and won’t do.

The must-dos often relate to work. paperwork (like taxes), and urgent home or vehicle maintenance. The should-dos usually are about care of others and self-care. The like-to-dos are activities that feed our soul or are just plain fun.

The fact that self-care and fun often come at the bottom of the list illustrates that our well-being and happiness often aren’t priorities for us. Everyone else may come first, with us trying and frequently failing to meet our own needs and desires.

Today’s message invites me to carve out a bit of time each day to put myself first. When I am happy, healthy, and inspired, I have more to offer the world.

Please reflect and share. Are you a priority to yourself?
