NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 540

Reiteration may not improve reception.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

We like to be heard. Particularly if we think our topic is important, we want to know our message is acknowledged, understood, and hopefully agreed with. We would like to make a positive difference with our words and may feel the need to have others buy in to our point of view.

Our desire to influence others may cause us to be adamant in our expressions. If we’re not heard or our message isn’t accepted, we may get more vehement. We repeat ourselves; we may raise our voices. This usually doesn’t sway others to adopt our viewpoint. But we may still persist.

Today’s message suggest I state my messages calmly and clearly. Then I will want to back off and let folks digest my words at their own pace. I can only control my delivery and not others’ reception.

How about you? How do you handle folks not listening to you?
