I have a dream and you hopefully do too
This month, the month in which we honor him, I’m moved to read Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream” speech. It’s a clear depiction of what could use change as well as a hopeful rallying cry for the future. Here’s a link to the text, should you be moved to read it too: Full_text_I_Have_a_Dream_.pdf
Today, amid political upheavals and controversies, I have a dream, too. I dream of a country, our country, in which we all are respected and equally well-treated. I wish for us to honor each other’s differences without prejudice. I hope that we might be able to disagree without hatred and condemnation. I dream that we all have the opportunity and path to build a good life for ourselves, whoever we are, and that tools and support is available to us when we assistance to go on.
I dream that we find our commonalities to be more important than our differences. I wish that we treat each other kindly and compassionately. I hope that we can find a way to heal the societal divide that is now so painfully apparent.
I can’t make all these changes all by myself. But I can commit to being kind, honest, and fair with others (and myself). I can visualize mightily of living in a country where my dream for it is true.
Won’t you please join me in the effort to be loving and kind, in dedicating time each day to seeing our country healed and well and prosperous for all of us? Thank you!
Please reflect and share. What is your dream for us?
