New thoughts
Many of us have habitual thought patterns. We hold onto persistent viewpoints and takes on life. And we may be disinclined to think or perceive differently.
When we have fixed ways of seeing things, it can be comforting. Even if these thought patterns are negative, they’re familiar. We know what we usually do in response to them. There’s no ambiguity for us, even is we dislike the experience.
Fortunately, life isn’t static. It’s always shifting and changing. That’s in general a good thing. But this makes habitual viewpoints and perceptions less than effective or useful.
We’re trying to experience life based on how it used to be rather than on how it is now. Our thoughts likely are no longer are appropriate for what is occurring now.
Especially if we’re getting upset, disheartened, or disappointed by life in the moment, we may wish to thought check ourselves. Is what we think about the current situation relevant to what is actually going on? Or do we interpret events as a repeat of a past unpleasant experience?
Today’s message reminds me that in any moment I have the opportunity to upgrade my personal perceptual system. When I allow myself to think new thoughts, I free myself to experience life in new ways.
Please reflect and share. What habitual thought pattern might it benefit you to release?
