Fair dealings

Interactions and commerce can be confusing and frustrating, particularly when we’re online. Are we being treated fairly? Is the product seller being treated fairly? Are we receiving good value for what we purchase? Does the seller receive fair compensation for their product?

Similar questions also arise when we interact with each other on digital platforms. Are we reading and responding to others’ input respectfully? Do others take in what we say without judgement and respond thoughtfully and courteously?

We likely have heard or read about others decrying the lack of honesty and courtesy in digital interactions. The heated nature of discourse has seemed to increase during this election cycle. It’s unfortunate and as a society we can do better.

When we’re not dealing with another person face-to-face, it’s easier to treat them unfairly. While we cannot control others’ responses to us, we can certainly ensure that we’re polite, respectful, and fair in our own words and actions. We can follow the golden rule and treat others as we would hope to be treated.

Today’s message reminds me that I can start upgrading the nature of digital discourse with my own choices. I can choose wisely and kindly, offering others the consideration I’d like to receive. Perhaps it will go viral.

Please reflect and share. Do you feel you are fair in your online dealings?
