NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 911

How bad is it really?

The number on today’s post had me thinking about emergencies and disasters. They usually don’t befall us personally, although they do happen with some frequency in the world at large.

My partner Nate has a saying he uses when something is the subject of complaint. “Nobody ever died of it.” It helps put things in perspective. Most occurrences we view as horrid aren’t really that bad in the grand scheme of things.

While we don’t want to indulge in schadenfreude—taking pleasure in someone else’s misfortune—seeing others having true difficulties helps remind us just how much we have to be grateful for. Viewing many of our difficulties in the larger scope can show us how trivial most of our complaints are.

Today’s message reminds me to turn up the volume on my gratitude. My life is mostly wonderful, and I am thankful!

Please reflect and share. How might you shift into greater thankfulness?
