NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 580

Pleasure results from experiences in alignment with our beliefs.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

Some things please us and others don’t. They’re easy to differentiate, and often we can predict in advance what will and won’t make us happy. However, having clearly designated parameters for what brings us pleasure limits the range of our enjoyment.

We tend to like things because they conform to our beliefs about what we enjoy. “I like just about anything with chocolate in it.” “Action movies are my favorites.” “I don’t care for jazz.” “I hate cold weather.” Our willingness to try new things as well as our attitudes about events are shaped by these beliefs. Particularly beliefs about what we don’t enjoy, which dampen our ability to take pleasure in more aspects of life.

Today’s message asks me to consider relaxing some of my long-held beliefs about what I do an don’t like. When I release habitual preferences, I may be pleasantly surprised by new experiences. I am open to enjoying more of life.

How about you? Do you have clear ideas about what pleases you?
