NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 494

If we don’t like how we feel, we can change what we’re doing and thinking.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

In any given moment, many of us are feeling to some degree uncomfortable about something. We may feel conflicted, embarrassed, shamed, chagrined, or squeamish. Our discomfort signals that something isn’t sitting right with us.

Our ill-at-ease feeling can be based in the past or the present. The current scenario may trigger feelings associated with a past event we believe to be similar. Or it may simply related to what is going on now.

A little reflection can help us understand whether our feeling arises from the present or past. If from the past, we can identity if old events actually are happening again or if it only feels like it. We can tweak our thoughts to release the assumed pattern, when the resemblance actually isn’t real. If the repeat of events truly exists, we can choose a different reaction to change the outcome.

For issues solely existing in the present, we also have options. We can mentally reframe the scenario to make it more comfortable for ourselves. Or we can take action to shift the situation to something we feel better about.

Today’s message reminds me that emotional discomfort is a sign I need to change. Whether I alter my perceptions, thoughts and beliefs or shift the scenario dynamics or even exit the situation, some sort of personal adjustment will help me feel more comfortable. I love myself by honoring any uncomfortable feelings and changing to alleviate them.

How about you? How do you handle feeling uncomfortable?
