NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1236

Back yourself.

We live in a time when there are experts for almost everything. Fashion gurus, etiquette columns, landscaping experts, medical specialists, life coaches—the list could go on and on.

It’s not to say these experts aren’t good people. Likely they are. They have earned their reputations by being knowledgeable and helpful.

But, perhaps too often we cede our decision making to them because they are experts. They should know what’s best for us, right?

We’re the only ones in charge of our lives. And we have to live with the consequences of what we decide or what we allow others to decide for us.

It certainly makes sense to listen to ourselves first and foremost. We can then get outside opinions if we feel that is necessary or useful. It may be advisable in high-stakes situations, if only to confirm our own input.

When we back ourselves by listening to ourselves, we retain the personal power and choice in any situation. We may hear others’ opinions, but the ultimate decision is ours. Only we can determine what is right for us.

Today’s message reminds me to dwell on things less and listen to myself more. I have a lifetime’s experience in solving my own problems and receive good input. Backing myself is a wise play.

Please reflect and share. Do you back yourself?
