Kindness

These days, many of us are shopping for gifts. We likely hope to find the perfects gifts for friends and loved ones, gifts that demonstrate we care.

We may spend considerable amounts of time and money trying to achieve this end. We probably want to get presents that are just perfect and will be memorable.

For some of us, our means and free time may not allow us to be as generous as we might wish to be. Or we simply might not be able to afford to give gifts at all.

If we aren’t able to give ideally chosen gifts, we may feel badly. We might feel like a failure because we can’t gift as we’d like to. And in this, we are wrong.

The holidays are just a small portion of the year. Yes, a splendid gift may make an impression. But it’s probable that the impact of such a present may be short-lived.

There is one gift we can give, this holiday season and all the rest of the year too, that can make a lasting difference. We can simply treat others kindly.

Kindness never goes out of fashion and is always the right size. It has universal appeal and is always appropriate.

That’s not to say we need to always accede to others’ wishes or be a doormat. We can honor our integrity and personal boundaries and still be kind.

Today’s message advises me that long after the memories a splashy gift might have faded, my kindness is likely to be remembered and cherished. Kindness is truly a gift for all seasons.

Please reflect and share. Do you consider kindness a gift that you can share?
