NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 1580

What have you gotten right?

We all may have a tendency to dwell on our mistakes. We go over and over the situations in our minds, cringing at the thought of our errors and berating ourselves for not acting differently. This may be even more painful if the mistake is a repeat occurrence.

Of course we want to learn from our mistakes. That’s certainly important and one of the most valuable ways to expand our knowledge. But dwelling on them is counterproductive. We want to focus on the error to gain understanding, then forgive ourselves and let the issue go.

Less often we ruminate on our successes. No sooner have we reached a goal than we set a new one for ourselves. This habit can make us feel that we’re somehow never good enough.

If we take the time to savor and celebrate our achievements, we recognize our efforts. We allow ourselves to feel good about who we are and what we’ve accomplished. We can realize that we are enough, capable and worthy.

Even better, we can also learn from our successes. A quick review will help us understand what tactics and actions worked well for us. We may wish to repeat them in the future. Yay us!

If we do this over time, we may come to see that we get things right far more often than we get them wrong. This positive assessment may help bolster a healthy self-image. We’re good people who do good things.

Today’s message asks me to be mindful of my successes. This will bolster my confidence, which helps me do even more good things.

Please reflect and share. Do you recognize your wins?
