Grateful for oneself
If we focus on gratitude, we may have a fairly long list. Friends, family, pets, job, coworkers, a home/condo/apartment, a vehicle, possessions, financial security, safety, and so forth. We, all of us, no matter our personal circumstances, have something to be thankful for.
But something is missing in this long list of blessings—ourselves. How often are we actively grateful for our own quirky, unique selves?
No one else in all Creation is quite like any one of us. We are all singular, a one-off mix of traits, characteristics, experiences, beliefs, perspectives, and behaviors. And that is a beautiful thing. There is infinite variety in humanity and all other aspects of existence.
As part of that endless diversity, we too are beautiful. A perfect microcosm of a divine macrocosm.
So, how often do we recognize that about ourselves? Are we grateful for our uniqueness? Do we feel blessed by our particular talents, abilities, and perspectives? Do we love and cherish the totality of who we are?
Today’s message reminds me to be grateful for being me. Yes, I may have some days that are better than others. And yes, there may be things about my life that I might wish were different. But no one else in all of existence has the experience of being precisely who I am. And that’s a precious gift.
Please reflect and share. Are you grateful for who you are?
