Boost your connection

Many of us feel the pain and discomfort of social and political divisions. Additionally, while social media can give us access to more people and information, often instantaneously, we may not feel satisfied by what it delivers. The end result is we may feel lonely and disconnected at times.

What we’re likely looking for is a sense of closeness we feel in our hearts. We may be missing the warm fuzzies of intimate conversation and companionship. I’m not necessarily talking about sex here—although it can be very nice. This is about feeling commonality and connection in a more general sense.

Our connection to other people can be fostered by caring and reaching out to them. Phone conversations, letters and cards (yes, written communications), juicy emails, teleconference chats, and in-person get togethers help us establish a bond with others and can keep it fresh and alive.

We can increase our sense of belonging and purpose in life by upping our spiritual connection, hopefully regularly. Practices like meditation, prayer, deep breathing, mindfulness, and reflection can help us tune in to our overall connection in Creation. We’re reminded by them that we’re part of a divine interconnected whole. As such, we can never truly be separate.

Our connection to the rest of Creation is also boosted by these spiritual practices. When we understand that we’re intrinsically part of the inseparable divine, we will find it easier to recognize and connects with all aspects and life forms. In this way, even totally separate from other people, we are never truly alone.

This message serves as a reminder to me (and to you, gentle reader) that if we want intimate and satisfying connections, we need to pursue them. We cannot wait for them to come to us.

Please reflect and share. How might you boost your connection?
