Ripe for the picking
We’re in garden harvest season. In my yard, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, beans, and peppers are all abundant. I have all I could want or need, and then some.
But not so long ago, back in February, all I had was seed packets and hope. I visualized the seeds growing into healthy plants that would feed me well. I didn’t worry or doubt my eventual results. I simply performed the daily care required. And I enjoyed the tending and my vision of a lush garden.
When I came time to plant out the seedlings, again I didn’t fret. This was a happy occasion, but not dramatic. I put them in well-prepared soil with appropriate fertilizer and pictured them growing strong and bountiful.
And lo, it has come to pass. My efforts have been rewarded. I moved forward each day with my vision and it materialized.
Admittedly, I’ve been gardening for a good number of years. This isn’t unfamiliar turf for me. But it was when I first began gardening. And I still succeeded in growing a plentiful food crop back then.
So why is it different for me, for us, when we’re faced with a goal? Why do we doubt ourselves and our likelihood of success?
What if we knew that false starts and possible temporary failures aside, that we’d eventually succeed? Would we have confidence that our dreams would end up ripe for the picking?
Today’s message reminds me that more than vegetable matter is ripe for the picking in my life. When I pursue what I want faithfully with confidence and joy, how can the desired results possibly evade me?
Please reflect and share. What is ripe for the picking in your life?
