NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 518

Not all work is labor.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

Those of us with jobs likely work hard at them. We put in our best effort day after day, week after week, year after year. Work associated with our occupation demands a good portion of our time and focus. We’re to be commended for our dedicated effort. Our paid labor helps us and others have a secure life.

Yes this isn’t the only regular energy we expend. We work on relationships, do personal work, exercise to be physically fit, have a regular spiritual regimen, put energy into creating things, and strive toward our dreams. All of these practices require ongoing effort, but they may not feel laborious, as they build us up. And they are just as, if not more, important than paid work in that they enhance the quality of our existence.

Today’s message reminds me of the value of both working toward the common good and my own personal benefit. If I am not complete and fulfilled in myself, I have less to offer the world. I increase my value to myself and others through my efforts toward personal fulfillment.

How about you? Do you have work/life balance?
