Rest is a gift we give ourselves.
Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?
We all know it’s important to be kind and considerate of others. Striving to be understanding, we may put effort into taking into account their needs, wants, and feelings. We try to be supportive and helpful of the folks in our lives.
However, we may struggle in being compassionate to ourselves. If we do have a concept of self-care, it may focus around doing—diet, exercise, learning, hobbies, supplements, spiritual and personal work. All these are worthy ways in which we can take care of ourselves. But we may fail to recognize that not-doing is also an important aspect of self-care.
Today’s message reminds me of the power of rest and quiet in caring for myself. Rest is a key way to restore my energy levels. The associated quiet, musing, and dreaming also provide a reset mechanism for my body, mind, and spirit. I give myself the gift of guilt-free rest to nurture my well-being.
How about you? Do you allow yourself to rest?
