Easy is hard
My partner Nate Hall had a quote he often expressed to his children. “The easy way is the hard way.”
On the surface, it may not seem to make sense. But delving into the concept a bit deeper reveals its wisdom.
When things are easy, we may tend to get lazy or take things for granted. Life may feel just fine as it is. We may be disinclined to make diligent efforts or learn new things.
We’re comfortable as is. This can make us unprepared and blindsided by any future difficulties.
In the midst of hardships, we’re pressed to find a way out. We may be forced to reconsider our assumptions and usual coping mechanisms. We struggle to find something that works better for us, and in doing so we grow and expand our skills and perceptions.
This doesn’t mean we should court problems, but we also shouldn’t fear them. When we try to work through issues calmly and with an open mind, we not only solve the scenarios facing us more easily, but we also strengthen ourselves to face any future challenges as well.
Today’s message cautions me against always taking the easy way out. When I’m willing to sort through a problem with good grace and confidence, I grow myself and my life skills.
Please reflect and share. Do you feel the easy way is the hard way?
