There are days when we struggle with what goes on around us. We may feel unhappy with the way certain situations are or aren’t.
Often this is exacerbated when we feel we lack clarity about why things are as they are. We’re likely certain we’d feel better if we just understood the why. The more we pick at the situation mentally, the more frustrated we may become.
This is when taking our perception of the situation up a level can help. When we’re stymied, we probably feel like the issue is all about us.
And this is so seldom true. Taking something personally, we’re likely to feel victimized when things are as we wish.
When we see ourselves and the situation as part of a larger pattern, it is easier to understand that greater forces are at play. We play a role, often a small one, in a greater scheme.
Recently, I’ve been mourning the loss of my cat Nimbus last January. He passed suddenly after a brief and often tragic life, having spent only nine months in our home. I felt I should have been able to do more for him and struggled to understand why he had to pass at such a young age. The situation is more poignant for me as tomorrow is the anniversary of his death.
Today’s message suggests it is to my advantage to take a broader spiritual perspective on Nimbus’s loss and any other current difficulties. I can either resist and feel powerless or choose how I perceive and react to what is.
By taking my perspective up a level, I can see Nimbus’s passing wasn’t about me, it was about him. And while the situation felt so hard to me, it was for both Nimbus’s and my benefit. By being grateful for what we had together (and still have together) I can release more of the grief and be happy here and now, as he insists he wants me to be.
Please reflect and share. How might you benefit from taking a higher perspective on a current situation?
