Notes From The Furlough: Day 45

No matter how you connive, reality suits itself.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. Spin on events is generated all around us and even inside us. The corona virus pandemic seems to have increased the spin quotient dramatically. The situation stirs our emotions and we tend to seek out news or discourse that supports our emotional reactions and think thoughts that perpetuate our beliefs. The debate about the safety of going back to business as usual and the political divide are two examples incessantly in our faces. Most folks seem to have strongly-held opinions bolstered by taking in more of the same.

Today’s message reminds me that I won’t get to the truth of any situation by simply confirming ideas I already hold. Rigidity in my beliefs doesn’t alter what is or isn’t. I am better served by actively looking for unbiased information and melding it with what I already know from experience, to arrive at fresh conclusions of my own that best reflect the situation in and around me right now. The less I fool myself by rigidly retaining preconceived notions, the better I will be able to respond to what actually occurs. Clarity!

How about you? What are you willing to do to refresh your perspective and how might that help you?
