NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 537

Repetition should be avoided when not enjoyable.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

We repeat may things, some intentionally and some unconsciously. We have habits, routines, methods, and behavior patterns. If something has worked once, we may tend to repeat the action even when circumstances change. Or we may have become accustomed to doing things a certain way because we think that’s what we’re supposed to do.

This isn’t to say all repetition is bad. We may have a morning ritual—meditation or prayer, a savored cup of coffee, breakfast with the kids—that helps us start the day on a happy footing. Or we may love weekly volunteering stints or visits with extended family. The point is that repetition should be a choice, something we opt for rather than mechanical behavior.

Today’s message asks me to review my routines. Are they making me happy or serving me well? If I am a slave to a routine and serving it instead, change is advisable. I repeat actions and behaviors that bring me joy and enhance my well-being.

How about you? How do you feel about your routines?
