NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 633

Ignoring unpleasantness is sometime useful.

There are big difficulties in life we can’t ignore—major illnesses, job losses, death, financial challenges. We need to cope with them, taking appropriate actions so we can recover in time. We face the pain so that things can eventually get better.

Smaller scale unpleasantnesses also crop up, often with some frequency. We deal with grumpy loved ones, minor aches and pains, temporary money shortages, and frustrating coworkers. If we place our attention on these problems, we become more painfully aware of them. They can color our experience if we place regular focus on them.

Simply ignoring them can be a viable option. Often, they will go away on their own. If they persist or become more serious, we can always choose to act on them in the future.

Today’s message advises me that optimism in the face of minor setbacks is often warranted. Cheerfulness is my best option in improving the quality of my life.

Please reflect and share. How do you handle the unpleasant?
