Let’s celebrate our milestones!
Please discuss. How does this play out in life?
I’ll start us out. COVID-19 has been a long, hard slog. Complicated by societal, political, and financial issues, it has left us struggling in the past year. Some of us have lost loved ones or employment. Some of us have been ill and hopefully recovered. We’ve all, regardless of our political preferences, suffered with the turmoil of the election cycle. We’re missing the intimacy of social interaction and starved for fun.
And yet, we’re still here. We’ve survived a year of COVID. We may not be unscathed, but we’ve made it through. It’s a testament to our hardiness, our tenacity, and our luck. This fact is worthy of celebration and gratitude: in the face of very trying times, we’re still standing.
When life as we knew it seems a distant dream, it can be hard to recognize our wins against the background of upheaval. Observing milestones like birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and recoveries can help us remember life is still essentially good and moves forward in spite of, and sometimes because of, current difficulties. There are always especially sweet spots in existence, and we magnify their impact by celebrating them.
Today’s message is poignant for me. Today marks my 300th consecutive blog post. When I started blogging last spring, I didn’t have a long-term vision. I just knew it was something I had to do. Blogging has brought me clarity amid life shifts and pushed me to examine my inner terrain, I hope it has been a gift to you as well. Here’s to us, survivors all, and the changes we’ve all made to try to persist and flourish!
How about you? What do you feel moved to celebrate?
