Notes From The Awareness: 211

Outer light illuminates; inner light reveals.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. All of us, from time to time, are in search of inspiration. We feel in need of a little extra something to enliven us and enrich our lives. We reach out—to the internet, to friends and family, to new connections, to nature, to literature, art, and music,—to find something that sparks us, that shines a light on the magic in life. We hope to be shown a beauty in experience that will refresh us.

This search for wonder around us can and does work. We find something juicy and satisfying and fill ourselves with the joy of it. But the experience, even if transcendent, is always fleeting. Somehow we end up feeling flat again, needing another fix, looking for the light outside of ourselves once more.

Today’s message reminds me that I will find a source of lasting wonder inside myself. Within me are untold riches, infinite possibilities, unknown talents, unimagined mojo. While life circumstances can remove outer inspiration from my sphere of experience, the magic inside me is always mine. I need only be willing to explore myself to activate it. “I am large. I contain multitudes.” – Walt Whitman, Song of Myself, 51.

How about you? Where do you find inspiration?
