Becoming less aware of yourself, you become more aware of yourself.
Please discuss. How does this play out in life?
I’ll start us out. Many of us have more stress than usual this year. We may be struggling with finances, dealing with health concerns and precautions, job hunting, suffering from a lack of regular social interaction. The situations can be challenging and it’s easy to get caught up in the ebb and flow of our individual lives. And yet much as we may feel alone, we are part of the greater whole of human society. When we shift our attention to the larger issues facing us as humans—war, pandemic, widespread unemployment, social injustice, political divisiveness—we relax the tight beam focus on our own problems, and in doing so are able to understand our place in the world.
Today’s message reminds me that a similar expansion of focus is possible in the spiritual realm. When I engage in habits and practices that diminish the mental chatter of daily concerns, I am able to blend into a grander awareness of interconnection in the divine. When this occurs, my true nature is revealed to me—divine, perfect, joyful, peaceful.
How about you? How do you remember your identify as part of a large whole, and how does that make you feel?
