NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 360

Recognition matters less than self-acceptance.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. We all like to be noted for our accomplishments. It feels good to have our successes acknowledged by others. Validation of our attainments feels like a reward for our efforts.

Yet, when we receive praise from others, even when well merited, a small niggling internal voice may question whether we deserve it. Our inner critic will point out any minor flaws or setbacks in reaching our goal. It can cause us to be self-deprecating in response to compliments. We feel somehow unsure that we’re worthy of recognition.

Today’s message advises that outside acclaim is meaningless if I don’t value myself. When I love myself, I’m confident and accepting of myself, warts and all. I’m comfortable acknowledging where I’ve succeeded and where I’ve failed. I don’t need others’ support to determine my own worth. I value myself as a divinely interconnected being and know I am unique and perfect just as I am.

How about you? Do you rely more on your own self-image or on the feedback of others?
