Notes From The Awareness: 320

Resistance makes doing the right thing harder.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. Much of the time in any given situation we know what the right thing to do is. Our moral compasses usually point to true north clearly. We just may not like or want to follow the path indicated. It may seems too challenging or too time consuming or may feel that our efforts would be unappreciated. For whatever reasons, we may feel reluctant to take the high road.

This is normal and understandable. Doing the right thing may indeed be more difficult than taking an easier route, at least in the short term. However, when we fight our better natures, we merely increase the level of effort needed. We’re traversing the more challenging path while also bearing the weight of our own resistance.

Today’s message advises me to choose a course of action—doing the right thing being highly recommended—and align all parts of myself to move forward. When my actions aren’t impeded by guilt, doubt, or reluctance, my progress will be easier and I will feel happier. Doing the right thing brings peace of mind.

How about you? How do you resist doing the right thing?
