NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 369

Mortality keeps life interesting.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. We’ve all complain that life is too short. The one consistent thing we want more of is time. It seems there isn’t enough time to do the things we want to do. We spend much of our lives embroiled in routine.

The idea of being immortal has its appeal. Never or only slowly aging and never dying seems intriguing. What if we never ran out of time? What would life look like?

If we stop to think about it, endless existence could become quite boring. A life of one experience after another in a ceaseless stream without the need to prioritize could, in fact, resemble browsing social media. It could be sometimes lightly entertaining, often bland, and without much real substance.

Today’s message reminds me of the value of being aware of my mortality. I should not fear or obsess over the inevitability of my passing. Rather I should view death as a life-long friend, the one who urges me to follow my dreams, eat an extra dessert, and do what makes me happy rather than what I think I should do. Being mortal encourages me to make each day fulfilling.

How about you? What perspective does mortality bring to your life?
