Syncopation is still rhythm

We all have dreams. At least to some extent, we probably take steps to achieve them.

Likely, our efforts may not always be consistent. We may have days when we pursue our goals with vigor. Then there also may be days when we do nothing. Zip. Yet other days, we may only make cursory efforts.

It’s probable that we’re not happy about our inconsistency. We may have a vision of taking certain steps daily with great regularity toward our dream. We may believe this is what we need to do to succeed.

While regular effort is helpful, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we need to exert a consistent amount of energy on our goals daily. Feeling good about what we do and having confidence that we will be successful is far more important than spending a precise amount of focus and effort each day.

Even if we take steps by fits and starts in the direction of our dreams, we’re still doing so. And syncopation is still a rhythm pattern, if not always a regular one. Having fun and feeling confident along the way, while not beating ourselves up if we’re a bit inconsistent, will help us keep momentum toward what we desire.

Today’s message reminds me that being happy as I work toward my dreams is more effective than grudging consistency. When I feel good about what I’m doing and where I’m heading, the dream creates itself.

Please reflect and share. Are you judgmental with yourself if your efforts aren’t consistent?
