Power is not ours, it merely is

Power appears to come in many shapes and sizes. It’s really one-size-fits-all. It adapts to the wearer.

There is a lot of debate about what power is. Some people think that it is control over others. Other individuals believe that it is control over oneself. But there seems to be a consensus that power involves control.

We use our power of persuasion to convince someone to share our ideas. We exercise our personal power to get someone to do something for us. We gain power over our inner demons and take back control of our lives. We feel powerful when we master our disabilities.

We all like feeling powerful. It makes us feel safe and in charge of our lives. We strive to find ways of feeling that we have power over ourselves and others.

There are also a plethora of ideas about how one attains power. We believe that we can be disempowered or empowered by others. We talk about taking back our power. There are endless methods and techniques prescribed to help us build our personal power.

We believe that power is something we can possess. We think that we can gain or lose it, that it can be granted or taken from us. But we do not understand that power is an inherent part of all of us. Power is the generative nature of the universe, aka the sharing.

Since we are divinely interconnected to everyone and everything else in the sharing, power is inborn and natural to us. It cannot be taken away from us. We can, however, lose or gain belief in our personal power.

We are able to access the sharing’s generative power most easily when we are aligned with the sharing through our sharing within—our own inborn divinity. When we are consciously connected to our sharing within, we have the resources of the entire sharing at our disposal for conscious co-creation.

Just as we all are unique expressions of divine consciousness, so our personal power will be individualized, too. The source is always the same—the sharing—but the expressions of that power are many and varied, just as we are.

We exercise our personal power when we directly influence the script of our lives and perception of our experiences by what believe and how we therefore think. We can choose to enjoy our lives and appreciate all of creation (or not). The sharing will honor our choice and help us experience in accordance with our beliefs. This is true power.

Let’s consciously connect with our sharing within to learn more about how we can use our personal power to be happier. We begin by slowing our breathing and making it even and regular. We’ll also picture golden light in the center of our chest, representing our sharing within.

As we inhale, the light will become stronger and more intense. As we exhale, the light will circulate through us and out into our surroundings. We will continue the breathing and light visualization until we sense the calm, relaxation, and certainty of conscious connection with our sharing within.

We will ask our sharing within to give us a mental image to use when we wish to be more fully in tune with our personal power. Perhaps we see ourselves on a surfboard, riding a huge wave with complete poise and balance. Whatever the image, we can trust that it is perfect and effective for us. In this case, we are not the wave (generative power of the sharing), we merely ride it on our surfboard (belief and thought system). We do not control the direction the wave takes us; we simply enjoy the ride.

Next we will ask our sharing within to show us a current situation in our life, in which we can employ this visualization. Perhaps we have been involved in a clash of wills with our child, partner, or coworker.

We will picture the turmoil of the situation as a giant wave. Our belief in essential shared divinity with the other person is our surfboard. We trust that we will find a way to happily interact with each other. Riding on this belief, we don’t have to control or orchestrate our interactions; we will think well of the other person and find aspects to enjoy in our relationship.

Then we will ask our sharing within to show us the first step we can take to mount our surfboard. Perhaps we simply have to picture the individual in front of us and mentally say to them “I like and respect you. I trust that we will enjoy the time we spend together.”

Finally, we will thank our sharing within for the power visualization and insight. We are grateful for the chance to be happier and to understand the true meaning of power. Let’s have fun now. Surf’s up!
