NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 535

Our boundaries show where we feel vulnerable.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

Many of us understand the benefits of personal boundaries. They help us ensure our interactions with other are healthy for us. We’re shielded from others taking more than we’re willing to give and from folks getting closer to us than is comfortable.

Some of us find it easier to establish personal boundaries than others do. And sometimes our boundaries are too lax and other times they’re too rigid. For most of us, our boundaries are a work in progress. Experience is teaching us when they’re working well for us and when they aren’t. We tweak them as we go along, aiming for mutually beneficial interactions with others.

Today’s message advises that my choice of personal boundaries can also help me understand my inner workings. My need for a particular boundary likely arises from a painful or uncomfortable past interaction which caused me to feel unsafe or afraid. I may hold thoughts and beliefs around the past interaction that no longer serve my best interests.

While I want to set forth healthy boundaries, I’ll also want to ensure they’re based on healthy and appropriate thoughts and beliefs. My boundaries should be flexible to address the current situation.

How about you? What are your thoughts about personal boundaries?
