NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 736

Plans are a suggestion.

Society encourages us to be planners. If we have a business, we’re supposed to have 6-month, one-year, and five-year business plans. We’re advised to have financial plans to achieve major monetary goals and to save for retirement. We plan vacations, careers, and even when we hope to have children.

We work hard at making plans. Trying to take all relevant facts and data into account, we do our best to project the future. Frequently, however, things do not go as planned. We mess up, our plans miss out on important details, and the unexpected occurs. It’s disheartening.

It helps when we take the view that our plans are a recommendation for what we’d like to see happen. Situations certainly won’t play out exactly as we plan. Tweaks will be needed along the way, and sometimes major ones. Knowing this and understanding that our plans are a living thing subject to change, we will experience less frustration.

Today’s message invites me not to get too hung up on plans. While planning is good to clarify what I want and get me started in that direction, I’ll be best served by being willing to revise my plans frequently.

Please reflect and share. How do you react if your plans don’t work out as desired?
