Pause and refresh
Sometimes we hit a blip in our progress. This happened to me earlier this week when an intestinal upset had me very quiet for a couple of days.
After a brief period of berating myself for falling ill, I tried to lean into what my body told me it needed. Lots of rest and sleep, small amount of healthy food, quiet, and calm. The cats of course were down with this approach. Anything that had me napping mid-day was certainly in line with their way of life.
I decided to pare my daily routine down to only things that would support my immediate physical health and needs. That included no second-guessing of myself or fretting and lots of dreamy and contemplative time.
Yesterday, I emerged feeling some energy and ambition. I did about half of what I wanted to do and then reminded myself to rest. Today is also another better day. I’m taking a slow and steady approach. I’ll likely be mostly back to normal by tomorrow.
Today’s message and the brief illness are reminders that sometimes a pause is needed for one’s well-being. When I take the time to refresh myself, I will have unplugged from my habitual routine and can approach things with renewed energy and an altered perspective.
Please reflect and share. Do you regularly take down time, or do you wait for your body to tell you it is needed?
