Nature is medicine.
With temperatures warming up in the northern hemisphere, we’re more interested in being outside. For those of us in cooler climates, we’re excited to be outdoors without heavy layers of clothing.
Most of us understand that fresh air and especially outdoor activity is healthy, at least most of the time. We enjoy getting out of our sheltering walls and into backyards, parks, and woods.
What we may not think about is that the outdoors is the natural habitat for our species. We began living in nature and then developed societies that separated us further and further from our natural origins. We are, after all, animals and spending time in the environment for which we were originally designed gives us a physical, mental, and emotional reset.
Today’s message reminds me that outside time is just as crucial to my well-being as healthy diet, exercise, and a spiritual practice. A daily dose of nature, in all weathers, helps me feel my best.
Please reflect and share. Do you feel you get enough outside time?
