Notes From The Furlough: Day 55

While you are doing something, be doing only that.

Please discuss. How does this play out in life?

I’ll start us out. Our lifestyles are full of distractions, and our work environments reward and encourage multi-tasking. Digital communication and entertainment train us to have short attention spans. The nature of our lives predisposes us to be unable to focus on a single task for a longer duration. COVID-19 provides additional worries, concerns and obsessions, dividing our attention yet further. This impedes our ability to get things done and poisons our enjoyment of the moment.

Today’s message reminds me it is time to stop permitting distractions. Split focus will lessen my effectiveness and dampen my ability to heed intuitive input. When a stray though arises to grab my attention, I can choose to brush it away, keeping my awareness on the activity at hand. Meditation will help strengthen this skill. Clarity comes with dedicated focus.

How about you? How do you handle distractions?
