NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 429

Boredom is a sign to go deeper.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out in your life?

Boredom seems to be an inevitable part of existence. Anything, even if initially highly enjoyable, feels tedious with frequent repetition. Tasks and chores become boring more quickly than leisure pastimes, but almost anything can become stale over time.

Tweaking an aspect of the activity can help—listening to music while cleaning house, cooking with a partner, varying our exercise routine. But sometimes this isn’t enough. The usual can still feel flat.

Today’s message advises me that boredom is about my mindset and not about the inherent nature of the activity. If I’m bored by something I’m doing, changing how I relate to it will push me out of my rut. Cleaning my clothes closet is an opportunity to be grateful for all my comfortable and useful apparel. Weeding the garden allows me to feel wonder at nature’s ability to thrive and grow. Grooming a pet or bathing a baby offers a chance to show deep love and caring. Properly approached, anything I do can be exciting and fulfilling.

How about you? How do you deal with boredom?
