NOTES FROM THE AWARENESS: 488

Being right often isn’t relevant.

Please reflect and share. How does this play out for you?

Most of us have plenty of opinions. We may place a good bit of stock in them. Usually we’re sure we’re right and it feels important that we be so.

Our egos are emotionally invested in being right. If our judgments are contested, we often take affront. Rejection of our opinions can feel like we’re being personally devalued.

Today’s message asks me to consider when and how often it is important to be right. Accuracy is vital in accounting, surgery, medication doses, medical diagnoses, and a few other instances. But mostly my—and other people’s—opinions and their validity aren’t all that useful or relevant. When I’m less invested in my own authority toward others, I’m freer to learn and enjoy.

How about you? Is it important to you to be right?
